But it feels just like I'm falling all the time

I liked Borns, but it wasn't until Blue Madonna, and his Coachella performance, that I felt super inspired.  Maybe I had too much going on to be able to really let a new favorite musician into my world, but I guess the timing was right this time.  I was feeling so inspired that I actually made 2 play doh figurines of him, and it had been over a year since I last made anything (post hip hop book).  Even got the vinyl.  

What Is Hip-Hop? Children's Book out now

Hi, everyone!  I know it's been such a long time since I have last blogged here on youngestindie.  Thought I'd share some big news with you all.  I kept calling this project "book 2", but "book 2" is finally out!  It is the second children's book I have illustrated with my clay figures, and written by Eric Morse, produced by Nelson George, and published by Black Sheep - Akashic Books.  This time we tackled the music genre and culture of hip-hop.  It was definitely a lot of work, and I really gave it my all.  I hope you are interested enough to pick up a copy and check it out!  Official book release was this past Tuesday on September 5, 2017.  If you are looking to purchase the book offline, please call your local bookstore and ask if they have in stock, or if they can order for you.  For all you online shoppers, the book is available on many websites, including Akashicbooks.com,  amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com.  Thank you!

On the shelf

Hello!  So, you all probably know by now that the book I illustrated, was released on October 6.  It's been available for preorder online.  And I know Amazon and online shopping is pretty convenient, but I really still love going to bookstores.  We grew up going into bookstores regularly when we were kids (remember Crown Books?).  Now, one of my favorite bookstores is called Vroman's in Pasadena.  I started going there in the early 2000s.  I would pick up California Apparel News, and various music and fashion magazines.  They have everything.  It's definitely one of those stores that you go into and spend way too much time in there, and discover so many wonderful books and things that you instantly just need to have.  That's the true shopping experience.  Not only that, you should read about this store and how it all began and who Mr. Vroman is.  I love the story and I love how this store still exists.  And it can only exist if we continue to stop in and support by purchasing books, magazines, gifts, etc.  Not only that, they have major guests for in-store events, and have a nice coffee shop.  Also, What Is Punk? is on the the shelves here!

Who needs you

If you've been following my tumblr, you probably know by now how much I'm a fan of The Orwells.  And how inspired I was by their performance on The Late Show with David Letterman.  Well, I've re-watched that video so many times.  It's kinda hard to explain but they have that special something that I look for in a band.  It makes me happy.  It makes me feel alive.  I've been wanting to make this but couldn't get myself to sit down and just do it.  Then I had a really bad day, so the next day I totally channeled that energy into making this.  Took me a while and I intentionally made it super short.  Well, I hope you like it.  Here are some original "stills" and watch the video at the bottom of this post.  Oh, and FYI, I created a totally separate tumblr focusing just on my play doh artworks.  It's called heyho-letsdoh.tumblr.com and @heyho_letsdoh on instagram.  Please follow if you like that kind of stuff.  Thanks!
