Yay for summer! I don't know what it is about girl group songs, but they're perfect for summer. I've always been a fan of doo wop. When CDs first came out, I remember going to the record shop with my dad, and he let me pick out one. I chose The Shirelles. Speaking of girl bands, here are some you should check out: The Pipettes, Rocket, The Grates, and the Plasticsines. For some weird reason, "Breakup Season" by Rocket is number one on my itunes most played list. That tells you a lot, doesn't it? It's a simple girly song. As for some oldies, what about "He's A Rebel" by the Crystals! or "Sweet Talking Guy" by the Chiffons!
