She said my boy it's dagger, oh yeah

A few weeks ago, I wanted to go out dancing, but I didn't because, well, my new year's resolution. Trying to spend less money and save more. I haven't been dancing in a while and I'm picky about where I go dance. Hahaha... :) Well, now I'm a little over it I guess. Anyways, the second best thing just might be to dress outrageously and dance around in your room, while blasting Chelsea Dagger.

I want you to know that I'm beautiful

That is a line from a song by Under the Influence of Giants. It was in June 2005 at the Viper Room where I first saw this band. Samantha Ronson was on first. Kirsten Dunst and Jake Gyllenhaal came together to see her. Kimberly Stewart was hanging out with her friends. Then, The Like played their set. Then it was UTIOG. I stood front row and danced. Their songs automatically make you dance. This was pre-David, and when there was a chic and a another bassist in the lineup. I saw them again few months later, and they announced that they got signed by Island Def Jam. I saw them again at the Key Club early last year. I really liked them the instant I heard them and I still remember watching them at the Roxy, and thinking to myself, "these guys are gonna be huge!" I like the Viper Room. I only have fun memories of that place.

Anyways, my favorite fashion item of the moment is the cardigan dress. I love menswear to begin with. You can just find a nice men's cardigan, so it becomes an oversized dress on you. Wear with opaque tights and a sequin beret. Splurge on nice ones by J.Lindeberg, Fred Perry, Lacoste, or just find something cheap at Target.

First off, let's all congratulate Ok Go on their Grammy win for Best Short Form Music Video! I think they should also win Best Dressed. I love bands, or people in general, who care about the way they look or present themselves. Call me shallow, or what you will, but I don't care, blame my career. Anyways, I did this a while ago, but I didn't upload it right away, because I thought I had too many Ok Go theme posts. I thought, if Ok Go had an all-female tribute band, they should be called "Ok Girl". Anyone wanna join me? Last summer, I was out shopping with the design department for market research. We hit up all the important stores in LA. We stopped by Paul Smith, and when I had gone in, I saw a guy who looked like Damian. I thought to myself, wow, there's a sales guy here who looks just like Damian. Then after looking at the womenswear, I went to the menswear section, and saw Tim. Then, like such an uncool, I told my boss, omg, that's my favorite band over there!

It was April 1, 2006 at the El Rey. They were the opening for the We Are Scientists show. That is when I first heard of, first saw, first fell in love with a band called The Grates. Their songs, her energy, so fun, so rock and roll, but also had a stinging bittersweetness. She was jumping around in a yellow floral shift dress, pink fishnets, and wellies on. I fell in love with a song called "Lies Are Much More Fun". (Perhaps because it's as bipolar as I am.) Several months later, they played at the opening of Club NME Los Angeles at Spaceland. I took the pictures there. I love all tracks from their album Gravity Won't Get You High.

I almost went all anti-Vday on you guys. As I was searching for a good love song lyric to use as the title, I almost chose anti-romance songs. If you didn't figure it out yet, well, I don't have a Valentine this year, or did I ever have one? That's private. Then I remembered how much I absolutely love this song. "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" by Mel Carter.

We're the renegades of funk, funk

It's a rainy day in Los Angeles. It's still a winter day in January. However, ever since the big Coachella announcement, I can't help but to dream of Spring and all those pretty frocks I am so ready to wear. I mean, if I go shopping, all I'm thinking about is "omg, that's perfect for Coachella!!!!!". I mean, the lineup pretty much speaks for itself. To point out the reasons why I'm so excited would be pointless. The more surprising acts would be Benny Benassi, Roky Erickson, LCD Soundsystem, RATM... And of course all the great new acts are coming too, ie Klaxons, Teddy Bears, Spank Rock, Tilly and the Wall. All my fav British bands are coming too, The Fratellis, The Cribs, Lily Allen.. I love music so much. It's pretty sick. Overwhelming? I know.

For you my future love

I have a bad case of the stomach flu. Not to mention I've been overwhelmed by all of my side projects. I have lots of things in works for YOUNGEST INDIE, but it'll be on hold for a while because I have to focus on recovering and getting back to work.

I've been listening to Klaxons. I like the whole London new rave scene. It's also apparent in fashion everywhere. I drew some happy rave-ish pop-arty indie-electro hoodies! For fun... Not for sale.

Dance Dance Revolution

I admit. I've been lazy with my blog. Not proud. My boss has been on vacay and I've been going crazy holding down the fort. But it's because after work, I've been "up in the gym just workin' on my fitness." Need to lose a few. My studio desk is a total mess and I have nowhere to draw. (lame excuse, I know). Honestly, I'm working on several different things for the blog. Just not done yet.

You like the two girls? Aren't they fierce? Yeah, so, everyone knows, raves are back! And so is the neon! Think American Apparel, 80's gym, crazy bright colors, shiny happy people, glam, and lots of dancing. Fashion designer reference: Cassette Playa, Bernard Willhelm, etc. Listen to Klaxons, Yelle, and Crystal Castles for inspiration. Mostly, for all you people in the States, I think the rave look has yet to come here, so why don't you try being ahead for a change and go wear some neon. I like to find random music on myspace. I am a deeply superficial person

I think I was in fifth grade when I first learned of Andy Warhol. I thought he was pretty cool. If you didn't know already, I'm a huge fan of pop art, mod, colors... My college fashion show was inspired largely by pop artists such as Andy Warhol and Peter Max. My obsession with colors is still going strong and will probably last forever. Some people call me shallow because I care about fashion and style and appearance. But I'm a fashion designer. I have to care. If I didn't eat, breathe, live it, I wouldn't be doing what I do. I don't think I'm shallow. I may just be a deeply superficial person.

The beauty that I'm faking let's me live my life like this

A post dedicated to the great Gerard Way was inevitable. You all knew it was coming. I can honestly say that he is my muse. He inspires me so much. I love the fact that he actually graduated college. He's been working in the real world. He then pursued his music dream when the time was right and it all came together. He's very smart. He's articulate. He's passionate. He's not afraid to be vulnerable. I relate to him a lot and respect him. You can also see his various musical/artistic influences. I love the fact that he's theatrical. I love everything that is cinematic and he makes his music so grand. I love all three albums. They are so different from each other. The fact that the first track on their first album is the classical piece ROMANCE was enough to prove that they were not just another band. Their song "Demolition Lovers" fills my head with movie ideas. His vocals in "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" are amazing. The second album was equally mind-blowing. I particularly liked "It's not a fashion statement, it's a fucking death wish", "Thank you for the Venom", and the last track. The story line with the two characters was very clever. The third album is unbelievable. Literally, the song "Mama" reminds me so much of "Master of the House" from Les Miserables. The video for "Black Parade" is so dark and beautiful. All of the lyrics are beyond awesome. Gerard really gets into character that sometimes I wish he would also try out acting. He has so much emotion and understanding that I think he could probably become one of the best actors of all time. When I read his interviews or hear him talk, it just makes me feel so inspired. Like I can take over the world or something. I can go on and on but I will stop for now.

I love musicals, cinematics, and theatricals so much and I guess that is why I find Gerard Way to be my absolute muse.

Welcome to 2007! Here's to the first post of the year! Honestly, I've been working on this one for a while. When I actually sat down to color, my palms were sweaty and I was so nervous. I think there's more pressure when you're trying to draw someone so perfect. I think Damian is so perfect in all areas, it's pretty much ridiculous. He's like unreal, in a good way. Plus, drawing four guys together, if I mess up even on one person's nose, or some other detail, I'd have to start ALL over again. But here it is! I actually knew of OK GO before their big backyard dance and amazing treadmill skills. I was bummed when their show with The Redwalls at the Roxy was sold out in 2005 (and I missed a Spaceland show). But I got to see them in December 2005 at the Roxy, so it was cool. I'm working on another okgo concept for a post, but you probably won't see that for a while. But, worry not, I have lots of other things I want to show you! So happy new year and come back soon!

It's just another new year's eve

Well, I'm a punk rocker. Yes, I am.

I love street blogs and street style photos. If you do too, I suggest you pick up a copy of "Street: The Nylon Book of Global Style" and also check out FACEHUNTER on blogspot. It's so inspiring to see people dress up. That was the great thing about my last job. Everybody dressed up and had their own unique style. This past summer, I was driving down Wilshire and I saw this girl crossing the street when I was stopped at a red light. She was a petite Asian girl. Her hair was a short blonde bob! And she was wearing a black Casualties tee with black skinny pants and red chucks. That was it. Very simple, but so rockin'! I decided to draw her. The background photos above are pics I took. I don't know much about it but I think street art is awesome. I took the pictures this summer driving home after the Banksy show. Andre is the only one left at that site. And it's fun to see what new art will appear. Well, today I have the day off and I'm gonna go do something fun. Remember, there are way too many beautiful clothes out there to be dressing in boring apparel.

It's the Holidays! I have been busy, sick, and stressed. Just like all of you! Therefore I had no time to work on any new artwork. So here is my gift to you! Tons of pictures of OK GO! Below is a mix of shows I've been to (two Troubadour shows and the most recent show at Safari Sam's!) I must say the show this past Tuesday at Safari Sam's was amazing! I think one of Damian's most energetic and wild performance ever. I really enjoyed it. It was a bit of a dejavu for me since I saw Damian last year in December and he was wearing the same shirt. I love that shirt. Blame my job, but I want to measure the width of his cuff. Just by eyeballing it, I think it must be around 6 inches. It was one of the best shows ever! I was very happy. Oh, Damian, why must you be so perfect?










Last week, my boss sent me out to run errands: buying patches and some fabric. I hadn't been out to the fabric and trim stores in Downtown in so long. It felt really nice to leave work extra early and walk around Downtown by myself. It was just like during my school days when I used to go there every weekend. I ended up buying charms and trims for myself. I've been making bracelets as gifts lately.
