Trouble with dreams

We hit up the LA Fashion week event at Box Eight Studios. It was a series of different photographers shooting different designers' collections. Plenty of stylish people came out. Good music blasted through the speakers. My friend was happy about the open bar, and I'm sure many others were too.

Miss Caroline D'Amore was the DJ for Saturday night. Many years ago, she walked a show at LA Fashion Week and I was the design assistant for that label at the time.

Towards the end of the night, there was a crazy fire dancer (?) and we got close, then we backed away because we were a little nervous. But, he was fabulous.

'Cause we all know art is hard

Early last week was the LA Textile Show. It's been a while since I've been because the last time I was too busy at work to attend. I still remember the first time I went to the LA Textile Show as a properly registered buyer for the company I was working for at the time and it meant so much to me. Now, it's routine. Also, it's sad to see how small it's gotten. The trim section used to be downstairs, and the textiles were upstairs. Now it's all just on one floor. This is due to our local suppliers and factories being shut down from lack of business due to the low prices that China and other countries offer. I think it's really unfortunate and would love to see the local (LA and NY) services thrive again. It means more jobs domestically. I feel it's really important. Moving on, the best part of the textile show is the massive sale at the book store in the lobby. I try to stay away from this store in general since they have everything and I can easily spend so much money there. After hours of editing what to buy, I went home with these beautiful books! So excited about them. Amazing photographs. Such a great deal.

I belong to the blank generation

Beautiful Sunday afternoon and a super busy weekend just taking care of business. Driving through Silver Lake, I spotted this badass moving truck in front of me. Later, I went to Diesel and saw cute boys with amazing style. I can probably create a new website solely dedicated to the boys that work at Diesel, since they are always so stylish and amazing. Check out his ring! Nice, he said it's from the UK. Of course. FYI, I also organized my posts and added a "style" label.

I want to hold you someday

There's a fabric/trim store that has these windows full of ideas. I used to always check them out when I was a student and I was delighted at the sights of festively draped dress forms. It's been years since I've taken time to look at the windows. Now, it's just always about work and getting it done. But these project ideas caught my eye. What a fun and simple way to create something trendy. Just get some cheap shoes from like Target or the Alley and buy some patches and you have military shoes (think Balmain Spring 2010) or do the stud thing (if you can't afford Louis Goldin or the spike dSquared). Then I took pics of some printed fabrics. Love me some gnomes, birds, and colorful mushrooms.
