You got a look that makes me think you're cool

Saturday night we went out to see a band called The Relationship at Molly Malone's. It's a cozy little Irish pub in LA. Pedestrian also played. They were really good. It was intimate and nice overall. The Relationship's set felt short to me. (As I say this, I realize if I'm enjoying a set, a full hour can feel short, whereas if I'm not feeling it, twenty minutes might be a long set in my opinion). Here are some pictures. And, if you haven't figured out already, yes, that is Brian Bell.

But it's all cool you know 'cause we're like adventurers

As you may all know by now, Be Your Own Pet is breaking up. I am so sad about it. I can honestly say that Jemina is probably my favorite frontgirl among all the current bands I've seen. I love the way she moves like she's possessed, her head banging during the drum part in "Bicycle", her adorable retro side to side bop, jumping on drumsets and on bandmates, bruised up and all over the place. It probably helps that I love their music/sound too. You know how I love energetic effin punk rock. She's the best front girl I've seen live. I remember the first time I heard "Damn Damn Leash", I was like "who is that?!" And how much do I love "Fire Department"? Oh, and the way she plopped that ice cream cone on top of that baby's head. I'm sure they will go on to other bands and endeavors, but I think BYOP was definitely an awesome band.

Finished this illustration today. It took me a long time to figure out every detail because you know I have to do Jemina's cool some justice.

Boo to the business world

I have a new alter ego/band created in my head. Lately, I've been loving duets/boy/girl bands/sounds. Here is the equation: listen to Belle&Sebastian's "Lazy Line Painter Jane" on repeat and belt it out in the car (love this song!), saw pictures of Damian's new haircut and perfectly cut gray suit, spotted a Jill Stuart polka dot dress that sounded like that song, see pretty pictures of She&Him, go back to wishing I could sing the girl part in the Belle&Sebastian songs. That's how these two were created. I could not get them out of my head, still can't, when I was shopping for work, I would keep looking at dresses and thinking "I would totally wear this for the show!". (Of course, meaning, the alter ego.) And I feel bad because I shouldn't be looking at dresses when I'm working because I'm a denim designer. The color palette for this "band' would be lots of black, grey, & white, but in a sweet classic way, almost office corporate like but not really, kinda like Theory, and they would probably sound nothing like Raveonettes, She&Him, or the Kills, but more Bell&Sebastian, Let's Go Sailing, Earlimart.

She's already gone

Last week was shopping research day with my boss. Yes, work. Anyways, we stopped by Melrose and were on our way to La Brea when I saw this girl standing outside Resurrection. She was wearing a black dress, black boots, and a big floppy red hat. I loved her style.

I haven't been well lately. I don't know what's bothering me so much.
