How you'd have a happy life, if you did the things you like

Ideally, I would have liked to have stayed in a hotel in Palm Springs at least for one night, and hang out by the pool, but alas, it was a weeknight and some people had work the next day.  That's fine.  We still drove out from Los Angeles to Pioneertown, and drove back right after the show.  It took us about three hours getting there because of the late afternoon traffic.  We made a quick pit stop and drove through majestic desert landscape to get to Pappy and Harriet's, the super charming and cool restaurant/bar/venue in Pioneertown that have housed many superstar acts.  This night, Franz Ferdinand and Palma Violets were playing an outdoor show there.  When we arrived, the sun had already set and was getting dark.  We got there just in time, right before the show started.  It was extremely chilly that night.  But we were prepared because I knew it was an outdoor show, and I am usually freezing at Hollywood Bowl or the Getty Center at night, even if it's summer.  Since I'm a total LA girl, that night felt like a winter's night to me.  But it was so pretty.  The night air.  The countless stars in the sky that were visible, unlike city life.  And of course, Franz Ferdinand.  They played another entertaining, energetic, fun show.  Palma Violets opened, and I'm sure they have tons of new fans now.  Their debut album is really good, go get it.  Also, be on the lookout for Franz Ferdinand's new album, predicting it will be out later this year.

You got me dancing in the sun

Next on my list of "localchella" shows was Palma Violets headlining The Echo.  This was a pretty crazy fun happy show.  All the fans were singing and dancing along to every song.  And after their set, the crowd demanded an encore, chanting the band back to the stage.  By the end of the night, fans stormed the stage, Chilli stage dived and crowd surfed.  Need I say more?

I found a new way

Since I didn't go to Coachella this year, I was hoping for some awesome "localchella" shows that Goldenvoice and FYF started presenting in between the two Coachella weekends.  I was so excited when they announced Franz Ferdinand's show at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood.  As a bonus, Palma Violets opened the show.  Then, the curtains went up and Franz Ferdinand went straight into "Michael".  That was enough to get the crowd going crazy.  It was, like always, an awesome enjoyable fun dance party.  They played some new songs, and I think their new album is supposed to come out this summer.  I can't wait.  I really liked them and so happy they are back.  It was a solid, quality, set list, mixing hits, faves, and new tunes.  But, of course, I always want to hear more and more, since they have so many good songs.  I really love this band.

Go out and get it

Last night I went to the sneak preview of the Black Lips' Middle Eastern tour documentary.  The screening was at the awesome Silent Movie Theater on Fairfax, brought to you by the amazing Cinefamily.  If you don't know about them yet, now is the time to check it out, www.cinefamily.org.  I also saw the Jay Reatard documentary here few years ago.  Well, onto the Black Lips.  I really enjoyed the film.  It did exactly what the film was meant to do.  I hope you guys all get to see it as well.  As a long time fan of the Black Lips, there's something special about them.  People tend to overuse this term, but when I say it, I really mean it, that they are truly down to earth.  Humble, regardless of how successful they are.  They just seem like amazing smart people making great music.  And that is why I love them so much.
