Keep us on track, let's never look back

Back in the good old indie rock days, around the time I started this blog, and Indie 103.1, WOXY, and Little Radio were blasting amazing new music, I heard a song called "Wasted Little DJs" by The View.  I can't remember exactly when, it was somewhere around 2006 or 2007, that I had bought tickets to see The View at the Troubadour.  I was really excited about it.  Sadly, the show was cancelled and I got a refund.  How amazing is it then that I got to finally see them in 2013!  And that their new album "Cheeky for a Reason", containing many addictive tunes, was released in the US.  They sounded amazing and looked great.  The fans really enjoyed the show and it was a true joy to hear all those songs live for the first time.  I mean, look at that set list, old, new, and everything in-between.  Always been a fan.  Not to mention, they're so crush-worthy.

*On a side note, Troubadour, your lighting was a little weird that night.  Did you hire someone new?  Because it was seriously a little off.  Some of your lights were blinding the front row the entire time.  Just sayin'.

Burning like a memory, what's left inside of me

I first heard "Chemicals" by Various Cruelties on NME Radio.  I wrote it down on a piece of paper as a reminder to check out more of their music.  Unfortunately, nothing came up on iTunes.  Few months passed by, then I heard their song "If It Wasn't For You" used on a commercial.  The song was so memorable and lovely that I Shazaamed it.  Luckily, by this time, Various Cruelties' music was on iTunes, so we bought the digital album.  It's been a while since I've heard a good band with a solid album.  This band is definitely one of them.  All the songs are really good, and I've listened to many of them on repeat, helping me get through this winter.  Not only that, they stopped by the Bootleg Bar in LA to play a show earlier this week.  Their live performance did not disappoint either.  It's the best feeling to hear and see songs you love played live.  My favorite song by them is "Magnetic Field".  Can't stop listening to them.

But I'm still standing in the hurricane's eye and it's dancing to my song

I am so happy that I got to see my favorite band again.  I seriously realized that this band means so much to me, even more than I thought, or maybe, I was just reminded.  Not only do they sound great live, look great live, are energetic and amazing, but their songs really touch me.  Their albums helped me get through all the ridiculous, harsh, cruel parts that come with just trying to get somewhere in your career, working in the competitive fashion industry. They really do sing about it all.  They sing my anthems.  And so perfect to dance to.  Because what can you do but dance when things don't necessarily go the way you planned it and there's nothing you can do.  You realize all the better things in life, such as having the music of The Hives to fill your head and heart.  Then I get to experience their live show, dance with all the happy fans, mosh and jump around, until I'm drenched in sweat, dehydrated, and about to pass out.  Now that's a great show.  I hope they never stop making music.

The setlist can never be bad because I love all their albums, but they sang "Insane" at the end!  So good, it's kind of ridiculous how perfect they are.

You know what I realized?  My first Hives show, I didn't have a digital camera, I had a film camera.
