Yesterday I went to the opening night reception for the 17th Annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibition at FIDM. For those of you who didn't know, yes, I am a FIDM alum. I've been going to this exhibit every year since I was a student there and it never ceases to excite me. Basically, you get to see the actual costumes from different films from the last year, including all the ones nominated for an Oscar in Best Costume Design. The opening reception was tons of fun. It was super crowded with lots of fabulous people. They had a drive-in theme going on. The highlight of the night was meeting Huell Howser and Mona May. I was super overwhelmed by the end of the night. The exhibition is open to the public from Jan 28 through Mar 29. Check out FIDM.com for more info.

I finally got to see Glasvegas! Over a year and a half ago, my sister first heard "Daddy's Gone" on the (sadly) now defunct Indie 103.1's Passport Approved show. We all loved it immediately. Unsurprisingly, their other songs were equally good. It's been great to discover their music early on and see them grow tremendously. They are huge in Europe. They finally came to play a show in Los Angeles after their US album release weeks ago. Not to mention, the show sold out months in advance. Carl Barat (The Libertines, Dirty Pretty Things) was the special guest. He just came out with an electric guitar and sang a most beautiful set. Glasvegas opened with "Flowers and Football Tops", another personal tear jerker. Their set was great. Highlight was seeing Rick Rubin checking out the band. Only complaint of the night would be that there were so many photographers in the crowd, there was not enough dancing.
James joined Carl on stage to sing "Burma" (swoon~)

From the archives, way back in late summer 2006! It was the opening night of Club NME Wednesdays at Spaceland. The Grates and The Blood Arm played a show. It was super fun. The balloons are from The Grates. Then the Blood Arm performed afterwards. The frontman puts on a real show. I like their songs. Almost glam-rock-ish sounding. They are really big in Europe. You should check them out. I dug this up for you because, yes, they sing that song "Do I Have Your Attention" currently being used in the new Gossip Girl ads.

I was feeling ill so I almost did not go to this party, but I'm really glad I did. I went to the Bank Run NYE party held by Little Radio at the old Banker's district in Downtown LA. I have blogged about this location before. It's where they have all these neat art galleries now and monthly art walks. The Christmas lights were still out and they were beautiful. I loved the yellow tone soft lighting from the street lamps in old Downtown LA. Bands like Port O'Brien and Ariel Pink played. Beachwood Sparks pulled out last minute due to illness. It was pretty low-key mellow fun for me. I liked it though. We did the countdown and drank champagne. Happy new year, everyone!
